NiSource has made a significant, long-term commitment to modernizing our energy infrastructure; helping our customers save energy and money; and making it convenient and easy for people to do business with us.
Building a More Modern Energy Infrastructure
During 2011, we invested $1.13 billion in capital expenditures, with the majority of that investment dedicated to enhancing and modernizing our energy infrastructure to better serve our customers for decades to come. In 2012, we’re raising the bar even higher, with a capital program of approximately $1.4 billion.
Helping Customers Manage Energy Use
One way that we’re building sustainable value for our customers is by helping them use less energy, which saves money on utility bills, reduces strain on energy infrastructure, preserves natural resources and benefits the environment. During 2011, we continued to develop and expand our portfolio of energy-efficiency programs.
Enhancing the Customer Experience
We want to make it easier for our customers to do business with us. That means focusing on new technologies and upgrades to our systems to meet the needs of a modern energy consumer. We’re introducing new payment methods, automated equipment and easier access through mobile phones.
"I have seen firsthand the tremendous impact a comprehensive infrastructure replacement program can have on communities. The plan initiated by Columbia Gas in 2007 has resulted in family-sustaining jobs, municipality/utility cooperation and continued safe system operation that will pay dividends for years to come. I am confident that the recent passage of legislation providing for timely recovery of costs associated with distribution system improvement projects will encourage system replacement projects statewide, thereby creating jobs and resulting in long-term cost savings."
