Developing Our Team
We are committed to providing development opportunities that build skills and capabilities at all levels of the company. In 2011, we developed and implemented an integrated process to strengthen and fill our leadership pipeline, with opportunities to help our employees maximize their potential and develop at every level – individual contributors, leaders of people, leaders of leaders and leaders of organizations.
We offer different training opportunities that enable development in targeted competencies at each stage in a career. In addition, online competency guides and skill assessments help identify areas for development.
In 2011, over 2,500 leaders participated in more than 40 leadership development opportunities. The new programs we introduced include:
Executive NiSource: Provides a common development experience for all NiSource officers. This program contains multiple modules to be delivered over several years. Our initial focus is on increasing a senior leaders’ ability to lead strategy by deepening understanding of strategy formulation, alignment and execution.
Project Management Training: Expands our project management capabilities and execution. We launched targeted development programs at NIPSCO in 2011 that will expand across NiSource in 2012.
Operations Leadership Development: Accelerates development of field operations leaders across NiSource. Two courses were offered to all field operations leaders in our gas distribution businesses in 2011 that will be expanded across NiSource in 2012.
- Power Conversations for Building Commitment: Engages and facilitates authentic, constructive conversations to manage employees’ performance in the areas of safety, attendance, productivity and attitude.
- Developing Others - Coaching for Leaders: Equips leaders to develop the performance of employees through coaching and feedback.
