NiSource earned global recognition for its diverse and inclusive culture for the second consecutive year.
The company was named to the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. Launched last year, the index measures gender equality by its statistics, policies, community engagement and products and services.
NiSource was one of 104 worldwide companies named to the list in 2018. This year, the company joins 95 American companies atop the 230-company list. Just 14 of those come from the utility sector.
NiSource’s score includes maximum points for diversity and inclusion strategy, board and CEO representation and tenure/attrition.
“We are proud that our positive steps toward gender equality are again recognized on the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index," said Carrie Hightman, NiSource Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, who is one of the company’s Executive Inclusion and Diversity Champions. “Gender equality and our inclusivity programs continue to be a critical component of our culture in which everyone can contribute and thrive.”
The survey captures social data across the company, weighing factors such as sponsoring external education programs, supply chain diversity, promoting women into management roles and creating diversity-focused company policies.
“We applaud NiSource and the other 229 firms tracked by the index for their action to measure gender equality through the Bloomberg GEI framework,” said Peter T. Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg and Founding Chairman of the U.S. 30% Club. “The company’s GEI inclusion is a strong indicator to its employees, investors and industry peers alike that it is leading by example to advance ongoing efforts for a truly inclusive workplace.”
