If you reside in one of the seven states where we operate, you’ve probably noticed one of our roughly 5,000 Columbia Gas and NIPSCO vehicles in your community. Did you know our employees have a permanent companion along for their travels?

In fact, this companion has helped us reduce preventable vehicle collisions – decreasing the risk of injury to our employees and other drivers.

Our company vehicles travel more than 50 million miles per year serving our customers and communities. With the help of safety telematics technology, we’ve reduced our preventable collision rate by more than 10 percent (2.42 to 2.14) in the past three years and changed our driving habits.

Our drivers receive audible real-time feedback to help them self-correct and improve driving behaviors. Drivers receive a daily safety score based on five categories of driving maneuvers: braking, cornering, lane handling, acceleration and speed.

According to the National Safety Council, the leading cause of unintentional deaths in the U.S. are car crashes. We’re doing everything we can to ensure we don’t contribute to that number – allowing our employees and those around them to go home safe every day.

Read more about our safety telematics on the Toledo Blade website.
