Lloyd Yates serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of NiSource Inc., one of the largest, fully regulated utility companies in the United States. In this role, he oversees NiSource’s six-state service area, where the company provides energy for nearly four million natural gas and electric customers through the dedicated efforts of 7,400 employees.  Appointed in 2020, Yates is an active member of NiSource’s Board of Directors.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Yates is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience in the regulated utility industry. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President, Customer and Delivery Operations, and President, Carolinas Region for Duke Energy Corporation. In that role, Yates was responsible for aligning customer-focused products and services to deliver a personalized end-to-end experience, and for profit and loss, strategic direction, and financial performance of regulated utilities in North Carolina and South Carolina. He also served as President and CEO for Progress Energy Carolinas. Early in his career, Yates held leadership roles at PECO Energy.

BOARD AND CIVIC INVOLVEMENT
Yates is active on boards for prominent industrial and professional service companies. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Gas Association. Yates is also a Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. board member, a leading insurance broker and risk advising firm with offices in more than 130 countries. He previously served on the board of directors for Sonoco Products Company and American Water Works, Inc. In addition, Yates has served for years on many community-based boards, including the Salvation Army, YMCA, Trees Charlotte, and local Boys and Girls Clubs.

EDUCATION
Yates earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He attended the Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and the Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School.
