Melanie Berman serves as Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President of Administration for NiSource Inc. She is responsible for aligning organizational structure with corporate goals, developing an environment that fosters employee engagement, building a culture focused on NiSource values and financial results, and all aviation and real estate services. She brings experience managing large-scale change as NiSource navigates and evolves through the energy transition.
Previously, Berman served as Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer at The Michaels Companies, North America’s largest arts and crafts specialty retailer.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
Berman has more than 30 years of experience in leadership roles in human resources. Her prior experience includes serving as Vice President, Human Resources at Anthem, a healthcare insurance provider and the largest subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Prior to Anthem, Berman served as Chief Human Resources Officer at BakerCorp, a supplier of containment rentals. Her earlier career includes multiple leadership roles in human resources, talent management and acquisition, and other corporate functions.
BOARD AND CIVIC INVOLVEMENT
Berman is a career speaker for Junior Achievement USA and served as a volunteer staff member for the North Texas Food Bank.
As a relative newcomer to Columbus, Melanie is passionate about her community and is an active board member for Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland, an organization that exists to meet the needs of every girl in a girl-centric and girl-driven environment. Additionally, Melanie sits on The Ohio State University Corporate Advisory Council and is an adjunct professor at the Fisher School of Business.
EDUCATION
Berman earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from State University of New York at Albany and a Master of Science degree in industrial organizational psychology from Baruch College.
