Call 1-866-948-1026 to get clearance for your work. NiSource safety policies require work clearances to promote safe operations across our service territory.
Prior to starting work, employees and third parties must obtain appropriate clearances from the Clearance Coordination Center (CC). Clearances are required to increase situational awareness and simultaneous work avoidance.
The CC centralizes notification to NiSource of work performed by employees, contractors, and upstream providers. Notification to CC MUST occur prior to performing work at a POD, District Regulator Station, or within 25 feet of a DOT Transmission Class pipeline.
View each type of clearance below. Follow the simple guides based on the type of work to be performed to easily request the clearance you need.
A “Day of Work” clearance is required prior to performing work at a POD, District Regulator Station, or within 25 feet of a DOT Transmission Class pipeline. Some examples that will require a “Day of Work” ticket may include but are not limited to: heater inspection, chart run, corrosion inspection, etc.

A “Internal Modification” clearance is required 30 days prior to high-risk NiSource work at a POD, district regulator station, transmission pipelines, and all pipeline classes undergoing Integrity In-line Inspection and Pigging. Some examples that will require an Internal Modification ticket may include but are not limited to: Station Shut-in, Hydrotest, New facility install, etc.
Guide to Internal Modification Clearance
A “Modification” clearance is required 14 days prior to any changes to a regulator station or pipeline that will impact the flows to NiSource markets. This is to provide enough notice for NiSource Field Engineering and Gas Control to prepare for the flow changes. Some examples that will require a “Modification” ticket may include but are not limited to: line outage, tie-in work, facility replacement, changes to pressure or flow, etc.

Requirements for Engineering Analysis
For low-risk work that requires entering multiple Premise/Stations in the same day, a “Multi-Site” clearance ticket can be granted to reduce the number of phone calls required by the field worker. On the day of work, the tech needs to call in to open the ticket before entering the first station and call to close the ticket when the route is over.
List of Multi-Site Clearance Tasks
A “5-day Notification” clearance is required for tasks that will touch equipment and require a heightened sense of awareness. This is to provide proper notification for monitoring. Some examples that will require a “5-Day Notification” ticket may include but are not limited to: filter separator inspection, turbine spin test, etc.

An Emergency Day of Work Clearance is for situations where notice is not possible due to unforeseen operational changes. Make the situation safe before calling.

You may already know that every job site team leader is required to call us at our clearance coordination center, which we call the "CC", to request clearance before any employee, contractor, or upstream supplier starts any jobs that affects a NiSource facility. And to call us again at the end of that job to close out that clearance.
Both times you call us are very important since they enable us to verify and validate what could be simultaneous requests within the same system. This requirement to call us is in addition to the other required calls you need to make, such as point-to-point calibrations with Gas Control. In addition to safety, the mission of the CC is to help coordinate activities that help each team to start on time and to finish on time. Like getting the right people to each site, getting vital information to Gas control and other teams, and looking for opportunities to help you avoid delays.
