In its 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), NIPSCO projects that electricity demand in northern Indiana could double by 2035, driven largely by the growing needs of large-load customers. Customers should not pay for additional generation costs needed to support that growth. We worked closely with state regulators and stakeholders to shape a solution for northern Indiana.
In 2025, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the NIPSCO Generation LLC (GenCo) construct, a first-in-the-nation model that isolates the costs and risks of new generation for large-load customers. Over time, GenCo is expected to deliver approximately $1 billion in savings to existing NIPSCO customers, while strengthening grid reliability and supporting economic development.
For NiSource and NIPSCO, this recognition reflects a clear guiding principle: existing customers should not bear the cost or risk of new generation needed to serve large-load growth.
