That's why NIPSCO Generation LLC is now NiSource Generation Company LLC (GenCo).
The new name better reflects the company's role in enabling this differentiated model that protects customers and promotes growth. Importantly, this is a name change only, not a change in strategy.
Supporting Growth While Protecting and Benefitting Customers
Through GenCo's structure, large-load customers, like data centers, pay for the generation and transmission infrastructure required to serve their needs. This approach helps ensure residential and local business customers are not responsible for funding infrastructure built specifically for new, high-demand users.
In fact, the model charges these large-load customers for use of NIPSCO’s electric system and is expected to provide approximately $1.4 billion in direct bill credits to NIPSCO electric customers over the next 15 years, while strengthening the electric grid and supporting long-term economic growth across northern Indiana.
Alignment with the Ratepayer Protection Pledge
NiSource recently signed the White House's Ratepayer Protection Pledge, formalizing principles that have guided GenCo since its creation.
The pledge is grounded in a simple idea: growth should pay for growth. New large-load customers should bear the costs associated with the infrastructure needed to serve them, helping protect existing utility customers from those investments.
That same principle is at the core of the GenCo model. Before and after the transition to NiSource Generation Company, the company's purpose remains unchanged: support economic development, enable new growth opportunities and protect customers through a structure designed to maintain affordability.

Our GenCo model creates speed to market and helps develop a more resilient, future-ready grid, provides capacity needed to serve growing demand, and positions northern Indiana to compete for major economic development projects that bring jobs, tax revenue and long-term investment to the region.
The name may be new, but the commitment is not. NiSource GenCo continues to reflect the principles that have guided the business from the beginning:
