As the calendar turns to February, we are presented with another tremendous opportunity to celebrate Black History Month. It provides us with an occasion to pause and recognize the achievements of Black Americans and reflect on their contributions in shaping this great country for the betterment of all people.

Black History Month is also an opportunity to look forward as we strive to be a society that embraces the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Here at NiSource, our business strategies purposely focus on inclusive behaviors tied to intrinsic values, such as trust, respect, accountability, and empathy. We carry this mindset in our day-to-day operations and display it as individuals in how we interact with business partners, customers, and – just as importantly – with one another.

We work diligently to foster a professional environment that encourages all employees to reach their full potential. Every NiSource employee can find their seat at a table where their voice is welcomed, their ideas heard, and their contributions are valued.

Beyond the workday, we are contributing our time and resources to non-profit organizations and investing in diverse suppliers that support economic inclusion and more economically stable communities where we humbly serve our customers.

Black History Month reminds us that we must always treat others with respect and dignity, be accountable for the well-being of our communities, and promote an environment that welcomes everyone's contributions.
